GAMeS will host Africa’s first ever eSports Summit at rAge on October 7th. Attendees will be discussing the investment opportunities for outside business to an audience of fans and followers. The Summit is slowly rolling out their list of invites, and today we received a press release with two new names, one that’s rather interesting.

AKA, the self-proclaimed 3rd World Boss, has been an avid Call of Duty gamer for some time and is looking forward to lending his insights about the growth of eSports throughout the continent on the Media, Entertainment & eSports panel.  He will also participate in the Call of Duty MAG Cup Celeb Challenge along with other local celebrities on Friday afternoon. AKA joins a long list of entertainment celebrities such as NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal and Major League Baseball players Alex Rodriquez and Jimmy Rollins who have invested in eSports teams and recognize the genre as a future entertainment platform.

“I’m excited to join this discussion.  I’ve followed the growth of the industry both globally and locally.  I’ve always felt that if brands are looking to align with millennials and youth culture there is no better platform than eSports,” states the rapper.

Big news too for eSports fans is that Ben “Benson” Bowe, international caster and Major League Gaming presenter, will be on the panel of speakers at the eSports Branding Summit. Benson was born in the United Kingdom and has been a familiar and popular face of eSports broadcasts over the years, becoming an MLG presenter in 2012. He has been part of the Call of Duty Championships broadcast team in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

“The South African community has always been a favorite of mine since I started my eSports career and I cannot wait to get out there and meet you all.” says Bowe.

Major League Gaming (MLG) is the global leader in eSports. MLG operates MLG.tv, the #1 online broadcast network for professional level competitive gaming; the MLG Pro Circuit, the longest-running eSports league in North America; and Game Battles, the largest cross platform online gaming tournament system with 9 million registered users across the globe.

The eSports Summit aims to bring awareness to the growing industry, showcasing the similarities between sports and eSports to investors and the importance of outside business influence.

South Africa is on the cusp of an eSports explosion, and the Summit will be South Africa’s introduction at a much, much larger scale. The Summit will run on Friday and welcomes all who are interested in eSports, and the rapid growth of the industry.
